Sustainable Development Workshops for Children 13: In the workshop held at the Sümer Campus Rectorate Seminar Hall, the theme of "Zero Hunger", the second of the United Nations (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), was addressed. In the workshop, which was attended by the students of Fatoş Büyükkuşoğlu Primary School in Melikgazi district of Kayseri, a design-based application was made to raise awareness about humanitarian aid by drawing attention to food awareness and food waste.
The linkage of departmental course and research outputs with the SDGs and, in general, the enhancement of departmental outputs were discussed.
Tuesday March 15, 2022, AGU Faculty of Architecture, Department of Architecture held Rammed Earth Workshop within the scope of 'ARCD 203 Alternative Construction Methods' that is Spring Semester elective course.
The 9th of the workshop series "Sustainable Development Goals at an Early Age" was held by the Faculty of Architecture of Abdullah Gul University (AGU).After the general information on the subject, the importance of water in terms of human life, the impact of humanity on water resources and keeping nature clean were discussed in the workshop within the scope "Life in Water" the 14th title of United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals. In this context, interactive activities were carried out in accordance with the characteristics of early age development. The workshop was completed by making water-themed designs.Head of Architecture Department Prof. Dr. Burak Asiliskender, Dr. Sumeyra Ayık, Dr. Sinan Akyüz and some AGU students Melike Akyüz, Vildan Yıldırım, Ataberk Yavuz Yaşar, Gülfem Aydın, Ayşe Hamide Köse, Gamze Hatlar, Mehmet Berke Hanceri and Yusuf Aktan who were coordinated by Res. Assisst. Gülsüm Polat also contributed to the workshop.
A workshop was held at Abdullah Gül University (AGU) with the participation of children aged 4-6 for the "World Water Day" announced by the United Nations (UN) and celebrated on 22 March every year.As College kindergarten students participated in the "Early Age Sustainable Development Goals" workshop organized by the Faculty of Architecture as part of the "22 March World Water Day".Thematic games and workshops designed in accordance with early age development characteristics were organized in the workshop titled "Clean Water and Sanitation", the sixth of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.The workshop was coordinated by Head of Architecture Department Prof. Dr. Burak Asiliskender, Dr. Sümeyra Ayık and Dr. Sinan Akyüz. The Department of Architecture of Abdullah Gül University (AGU) and District Governorship of Avanos co-organized "Workshop on Sustainable Development Goals in Education" at Avanos Güray Museum as part of the project "Düşyeri Avanos" (Dreamland Avanos).Prof. Burak Asiliskender, Chair of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Sinan Akyüz, and Dr. Sümeyra Ayık discussed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on education.The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), implemented by the UN, are a universal call to eradicate poverty, save the planet, and ensure that all people live in peace and prosperity. In this line, the 17 goals tackle the universal needs holistically. Besides building on the success of the Millennium Development Goals, they address new priorities and areas, such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, and peace and justice.
Abdullah Gül University hosted a workshop for children aged four to six years on World Water Day, an annual United Nations (UN) observance day held on 22 March.Kindergarten students of As Koleji joined the "Sustainable Development Goals in Early Childhood" program of the Faculty of Architecture, organized on the occasion of "22 March, World Water Day."The organization targeted the sixth Sustainable Development Goal of the United Nations, "Clean Water and Sanitation," and involved thematic games and workshops designed for early childhood development. Prof. Burak Asiliskender, Chair of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Sümeyra Ayık, and Dr. Sinan Akyüz coordinated the workshop, and RA Gülsüm Polat and the department's students, Melike Akyüz, Hilal Sevim, Mustafa Ehven, and Mercan Göktepe, contributed in various capacities.
The eighth edition of the workshop series "Sustainable Development Goals for Children" was held by the Faculty of Architecture of Abdullah Gül University (AGU) on the "International Day of Forests" and welcomed seventh-grade students of Hikmet Kozan Secondary School.Focusing on the UN's 15th Sustainable Development Goal, "Life on Land," the workshop provided background information and shared national and international examples of forest protection and afforestation. In addition, the students created an empathy map at the workshop and made nature-themed designs from recycled materials. Under the coordination of Prof. Burak Asiliskender, Chair of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Sümeyra Ayık, Dr. Sinan Akyüz, and RA Gülsüm Polat, students Yunus Yıldız, Furkan Bal, Ebrar Beceren, Ayça Orhan, and Melike Tuna from the AGU TEMA Youth Club and Melike Akyüz from Architecture helped run the workshop.
Dr. Oktay Kaplan hosted a workshop for high school students on January 24, 2022, from 14:00 to 17:00. This workshop was on CRISPR, a cutting-edge genome editing technology and it is directly related to SDG3 since this technology can be utilized for the treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases.
S. Bengisu Akkurt participated in the "Forest of Hope" Workshop held by KAÇUV on January 25, 2022, between 20:30 and 22:00, with the moderation of expert clinical psychologist Medya Güner. This workshop focuses on well-being-related outcomes such as practicing mindfulness, developing self-compassion, feeling gratitude, recognizing, and accepting emotions.
