5th International Eurasian Conference o Biological and Chemical Sciences (EurasianBioChem 2022)

Dr. Özkan Fidan, faculty member of the Department of Bioengineering, gave an oral presentation on the development of new drug candidates. Many presentations at the event had content on this topic.

Participation to III. International Enzyme and Bioproce

An oral presentation of drug molecule candidates was made at the related event. This event is relevant to SDG 3 due to the potential use of the drug molecules presented for the treatment of infectious viral diseases such as Zika and Dengue.

Ms. Ceyda, our school's psychologist, held an informative meeting on how to deal with academic stress.

SDG Training for Classroom Teachers

21 classroom teachers from Kayseri and neighboring provinces were given a 5-day training supported by Tübitak on the role and importance of SDG in education and how to deliver SDG education.

Assignment the visit to the University of Reading in England as part of Erasmus+ Training Staff Exchange Program

The Department of Bioengineering of the Faculty of Life and Natural Sciences of our University Dr. Mesude Biçer's request to be assigned for twelve days between 28.06.2022 and 09.07.2022 for the purpose of visiting the University of Reading in the UK within the scope of the Erasmus + Training Staff Exchange Program has been approved.

Assignment as tournament referee for BILL JEAN KING CUP

Department of Bioengineering of our Faculty, Assist. Prof. Dr. İsmail AKÇOK's request to be appointed as referee in the BILL JEAN KING CUP tournament to be held at Antalya Megasaray Tennis Academy between 11-16 April 2022, in accordance with Article 29 of the 3289 Law on the Organization and Duties of the General Directorate of Sports, has been accepted.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Aysun Cebeci Aydın  from the department of  Nanotechnology Engineering in AGU, gave a speech entitled Nutrition and Health at the GLB 203 lecture, which she attended as a guest speaker.

A Book Has Been Released Including A Chapter Co-Authored By Sümeyra Bengisu Akkurt, Research Assistant of AGU Department of Psychology!

The book "Examining Complex Intergroup Relations Through the Lens of Turkey" has been released, and it includes a chapter co-authored by Sümeyra Bengisu Akkurt, one of the research assistants of the AGU Department of Psychology. The book, edited by Dr Hüseyin Çakal and Dr Shenel Husnu, looks at the context of Turkey, which is home to a diverse range of social, ethnic, and religious groups, through the lens of social and political psychology. We congratulate Bengisu on her contribution to the chapter titled "Missing the good old days or connecting to the globe: Investigating out-group attitudes through collective nostalgia and global identification" in this excellent book.

The Social Psychology of Vaccination Intentions: The Role of Institutional Trust in Combating Covid-19 in Polarized Societies

AGU Department of Political Science and International Relations held the second of seminar series this term.From Bilkent University, Dr. Instructor Member Ayşenur DAL and Dr. Instructor Member Efe TOKDEMİR presented their article titled "Social Psychology of Vaccination Intentions: The Role of Institutional Trust in Combating Covid-19 in Polarized Societies". This article examines the social-psychological mechanisms behind how citizens in societies with clear social/political divisions cope with the uncertainties arising from COVID-19 vaccine developments. It shows that if society is strongly polarized, it is difficult to overcome an immediate collective threat that requires public cooperation with health policies. The paper's findings offer key policy implications for the immunization phase of the pandemic and contribute to the areas of individual judgment and decision-making about public health, conflict studies, and social risks.

A Speech on the Nobel Prize-Winning CRISPR Cas9 Technology

Dr. Oktay Kaplan gave a speech on the Nobel Prize-winning CRISPR Cas9 technology, which is widely used in the treatment and research of various diseases, at the invitation of the Azerbaijan Sapiens Academy.

Workshop on Sustainable Development Goals in Education

The Department of Architecture of Abdullah Gül University (AGU) and District Governorship of Avanos co-organized "Workshop on Sustainable Development Goals in Education" at Avanos Güray Museum as part of the project "Düşyeri Avanos" (Dreamland Avanos).Prof. Burak Asiliskender, Chair of the Department of Architecture, Dr. Sinan Akyüz, and Dr. Sümeyra Ayık discussed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals with a focus on education.The Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), implemented by the UN, are a universal call to eradicate poverty, save the planet, and ensure that all people live in peace and prosperity. In this line, the 17 goals tackle the universal needs holistically. Besides building on the success of the Millennium Development Goals, they address new priorities and areas, such as climate change, economic inequality, innovation, sustainable consumption, and peace and justice.

Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute

Dr. Özkan Fidan was assigned to join the research group in Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Institute at TUBITAK Marmara Research Center to build collaboration for vaccine research, which is one of the main targets of SDG 3 to prevent communicable diseases.

GLB Course Focusing on SDG3

Dr. Oktay Kaplan and Dr. Ozkan Fidan offered a GLB course focusing on SDG3. In this course, various health related topics such as rare diseases, rational drug use, antimicrobial resistance, anti-vaccinism, probiotics, stem cell therapy and biomaterials in medicine were introduced to our students in order for increasing their awareness on these topics and showing the relevance of them with SDG3.

A Workshop for High School Students

Dr. Oktay Kaplan hosted a workshop for high school students on January 24, 2022, from 14:00 to 17:00. This workshop was on CRISPR, a cutting-edge genome editing technology and it is directly related to SDG3 since this technology can be utilized for the treatment of communicable and non-communicable diseases.

TUBITAK 1001 Project

S. Bengisu Akkurt has been working as a research assistant on TUBITAK 1001 Project titled “How to Promote Cooperation in Resource Scarcity? The Regulatory Role of Intuitive/Analytical Thinking”.

Forest of Hope Workshop

S. Bengisu Akkurt participated in the "Forest of Hope" Workshop held by KAÇUV on January 25, 2022, between 20:30 and 22:00, with the moderation of expert clinical psychologist Medya Güner. This workshop focuses on well-being-related outcomes such as practicing mindfulness, developing self-compassion, feeling gratitude, recognizing, and accepting emotions. 

Collaboration Yeşilay Counselling Center (YEDAM)

AGU Psychology has collaborated Yeşilay Counselling Center (YEDAM) to raise AGU students' awareness about addiction types; we have planned to organize a symposium to enable that.  

Research Project

Faculty of AGU Psychology department have been working on a research project investigating the adherence to the COVID-19 measures by students at AGU Sumer Campus.
